(A Test of True Love)

Lieutenant John Blandford was a young army officer. While in a training camp, he read the novel 'Of Human Bondage' and found meaningful handwritten notes inside it by Hollis Meynell. He found her address and started writing to her. During 13 months of military service overseas, her letters gave him immense strength and courage. When they agreed to meet at Grand Central Station, Meynell tested his character using a red rose and an older woman. Blandford proved his sincerity by prioritizing true emotional connection and gratitude over physical beauty, thereby passing the test of true love.

2. Miss Hollis Meynell

Hollis Meynell was a wise, thoughtful 30-year-old woman living in New York. She engaged in a 13-month correspondence with Lieutenant Blandford. She refused to send her photo because she wanted their bond to be based on genuine feelings rather than looks. To test whether Blandford was genuinely attracted to her mind and soul or just physical appearance, she arranged a clever test at Grand Central Station with the help of an older woman. Her experiment proved that Blandford's love and character were pure.

3. The End of the Story: 'A Test of True Love'

At 6:00 PM, Blandford faced a difficult dilemma. A stunning young woman in a green suit walked past him, while a heavy woman past forty stood behind her wearing the red rose. Though tempted by the young girl's beauty, Blandford chose loyalty and gratitude toward the woman who supported him during the war. He approached the older woman, saluted, and invited her to dinner. The older woman then revealed that the attractive girl in green was actually Miss Meynell, who had set up the test. Blandford's decision proved that true love values character over superficial beauty

W.1 Write a paragraph on your best friend.

My Best Friend

My best friend's name is Rohan, though I affectionately call him 'Rohu'. We first met in grade 6 when we sat next to each other on the first day of school. Rohan is tall, slim, and always carries a warm smile on his face. We share many common interests, especially our love for playing cricket, reading adventurous comic books, and solving math puzzles. His hobbies include playing the guitar, sketching landscapes, and collecting rare coins.

What I like most about him is his kind, helpful, and optimistic nature. Whenever I face any difficulty in my studies or feel low, he is always there to guide and support me. Similarly, I help him whenever he gets stuck in science concepts or computer programming. We enjoy our time together by riding bicycles in the evening, studying during exams, and sharing our daily experiences. I am proud of him because he is honest, polite to everyone, and always stands up for what is right. I am confident that our friendship will remain strong, true, and everlasting throughout our lives.

W.2 'A friend in need is a friend indeed'. Write about your experience.

A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed

It is rightly said that "A friend in need is a friend indeed." True friendship is tested during times of adversity, and I experienced this firsthand during my class 9 final examinations.

Just two days before our Mathematics exam, I fell severely ill with high fever and was diagnosed with dengue. I was bedridden and completely missed the last-minute revision classes at school. I was extremely anxious and overwhelmed about failing the exam because I couldn't attend school to collect important notes and question banks.

Learning about my situation, my close friend Aarav came to my house every evening after his own revision. Despite his busy schedule, he shared his neat notebooks with me and spent two hours every night explaining complex math theorems and formulas until I understood them clearly. He kept encouraging me and assured me that I would do well. Because of his selfless support and constant encouragement, I gained confidence, appeared for the exam, and scored top marks. That day, I realized that true friends are those who stand by your side when you need them the most.

Rancho inspires both of his friends to follow their real passion and face their fears. Along the way, they constantly clash with their strict director, Professor Viru Sahastrabuddhe (known as 'Virus'). Through various trials, including Raju's emotional recovery after a fall and helping Virus's daughter during an emergency delivery using an improvised generator, the bonds of their friendship grow unbreakable.

  • The End of the Story: Years after graduation, Farhan and Raju go on a journey to find Rancho, who had mysteriously vanished after college. They eventually discover that Rancho is now a world-renowned scientist named Phunsukh Wangdu, running an innovative school for creative kids in Ladakh.

  • Reason for Liking & Learning: I like this movie because it beautifully blends humor with deep emotional lessons about friendship, passion, and education. The greatest learning from the movie is to pursue excellence rather than success, as success will automatically follow if you follow your heart with dedication.
