નાની વહાલી દીકરી
સંચા વડે (સંચાથી)

સફેદ કાગળનું આકાશ
પ્રકાશથી ભરાવા લાગે છે.
ઝાડ સાથે ઊડી જતું કાળું પક્ષી;
મોરની આંખો પર ચશ્મા;
હવામાં ઊડતો અગ્નિ-રથ;
રોડ પર ચાલતું વિમાન;
ગાય સાથે વાતો કરતો સિંહ;
કાળા ઝાડ પર એક આંખવાળો સૂરજ
જેના પર વાદળનું થીગડું (દાગ) છે;
વાદળના કપાળ પર ઊડતી વાદળી માછલી;
ધોધમાં તરતું પીળું પતંગિયું.
મારી વહાલી દીકરી,
તેના અતિશય આનંદમાં (તરંગમાં)
વિચિત્ર ચિત્રો દોરવામાં
મશગૂલ છે.
પરંતુ જ્યારે શાળાના શિક્ષક
તેને ઘરકામ (હોમવર્ક) આપે છે,
ત્યારે મારી વહાલી ઢીંગલી
ગુસ્સામાં
પેન્સિલની અણી તોડી નાખે છે,
અને પેન્સિલરૂપી મીણબત્તી
ઓલવાઈ જાય છે.
સફેદ કાગળના આકાશ પર
માત્ર ધુમાડો જ રહી જાય છે.
