Sohansen was a prince. સોહનસેન એક રાજકુમાર હતો.
He had three friends: Longer legs, Sharper eyes and Bigger belly. તેને ત્રણ મિત્રો હતા: લોન્ગર લેગ્સ (લાંબા પગ), શાર્પર આઇઝ (તેજસ્વી આંખો) અને બિગર બેલી (મોટું પેટ).
They had special powers. તેઓની પાસે ખાસ શક્તિઓ હતી.
In that land, another king had a beautiful princess. તે પ્રદેશમાં, બીજા એક રાજાને એક સુંદર રાજકુમારી હતી.
Many young princes hoped to marry her. ઘણા યુવાન રાજકુમારો તેની સાથે લગ્ન કરવાની આશા રાખતા હતા.
But the king, her father, did not want his daughter to marry at all. પરંતુ રાજા, તેના પિતા, પોતાની પુત્રીના લગ્ન કરાવવા જરાય નહોતા ઈચ્છતા.
The king was a magician. રાજા એક જાદુગર હતો.
So, he set three difficult tests. તેથી, તેણે ત્રણ અઘરી કસોટીઓ ગોઠવી.
Each day he would hide the princess at a different place. દરરોજ તે રાજકુમારીને એક અલગ જગ્યાએ સંતાડી દેતો.
The prince had to find and bring her back to the palace. રાજકુમારે તેને શોધીને મહેલમાં પાછી લાવવી પડતી.
Many princes tried but failed in this test. ઘણા રાજકુમારોએ પ્રયત્ન કર્યો પરંતુ તેઓ આ કસોટીમાં નિષ્ફળ ગયા.
So the king turned them into a donkey with his magic. તેથી રાજાએ પોતાની જાદુઈ શક્તિથી તેઓને ગધેડામાં બદલી નાખ્યા.
Sohansen went to the king. સોહનસેન રાજા પાસે ગયો.
The king said, "I have hidden the princess somewhere. Find her out and bring her to me before the sunset." રાજાએ કહ્યું, "મેં રાજકુમારીને ક્યાંક સંતાડી છે. તેને શોધી કાઢ અને સૂર્યાસ્ત પહેલાં મારી પાસે લાવ."
The Sharper eyes looked all around and said, "The princess is on the top of a mountain, a hundred miles away." શાર્પર આઇઝે (તેજસ્વી આંખોએ) ચારેય તરફ જોયું અને કહ્યું, "રાજકુમારી સો માઈલ દૂર, એક પર્વતની ટોચ પર છે."
Then Longer legs ran as fast as the wind. પછી લોન્ગર લેગ્સ (લાંબા પગ) પવનની જેમ ઝડપથી દોડ્યો.
He came back with the princess before dark (sunset). તે સૂર્યાસ્ત (અંધારું થતાં) પહેલાં રાજકુમારી સાથે પાછો આવ્યો.
The king was angry. રાજા ગુસ્સે થયો.
The next day the king said, "I have hidden the princess somewhere else. Bring her back to me before the sunset." બીજા દિવસે રાજાએ કહ્યું, "મેં રાજકુમારીને બીજી કોઈ જગ્યાએ સંતાડી છે. તેને સૂર્યાસ્ત પહેલાં મારી પાસે પાછી લાવ."
Sharper eyes looked and said, "The king has turned her into a golden leaf. She is two hundred miles away. The leaf is shaking (hanging) in the wind." શાર્પર આઇઝે જોયું અને કહ્યું, "રાજાએ તેને સોનેરી પાંદડામાં બદલી નાખી છે. તે બસો માઈલ દૂર છે. પાંદડું પવનમાં હલી રહ્યું છે."
Longer legs ran faster than the wind. લોન્ગર લેગ્સ પવન કરતાં પણ વધુ ઝડપથી દોડ્યો.
He came back with the princess before night fall (sunset). તે રાત પડતાં (સૂર્યાસ્ત) પહેલાં રાજકુમારી સાથે પાછો આવ્યો.
The king was angrier. રાજા વધુ ગુસ્સે થયો.
On the third day the king said, "Come with the princess before sunset." ત્રીજા દિવસે રાજાએ કહ્યું, "સૂર્યાસ્ત પહેલાં રાજકુમારી સાથે આવજે."
Again Sharper eyes looked all around and said, "The princess is quite closer. She is at the bottom of a very deep lake. The king has turned her into a silver fish." ફરીથી શાર્પર આઇઝે ચારેય તરફ જોયું અને કહ્યું, "રાજકુમારી તદ્દન નજીક છે. તે એક ખૂબ જ ઊંડા તળાવના તળિયે છે. રાજાએ તેને રૂપેરી માછલીમાં બદલી નાખી છે."
The four friends went to the lake. ચારેય મિત્રો તળાવ પાસે ગયા.
"Now it is my turn," said Bigger belly. "હવે મારો વારો છે," બિગર બેલીએ (મોટા પેટે) કહ્યું.
He started to drink water. તેણે પાણી પીવાનું શરૂ કર્યું.
He drank and drank. The lake was almost empty. તે પાણી પીતો જ ગયો અને પીતો જ ગયો. તળાવ લગભગ ખાલી થઈ ગયું.
The prince caught the silver fish. રાજકુમારે રૂપેરી માછલી પકડી લીધી.
The fish turned into the beautiful princess. માછલી સુંદર રાજકુમારીમાં બદલાઈ ગઈ.
Both the prince and the princess were happy. રાજકુમાર અને રાજકુમારી બંને ખુશ હતા.
They went to the king. તેઓ રાજા પાસે ગયા.
The king became very angry. રાજા ખૂબ ગુસ્સે થયો.
The king turned himself into a crow and flew away into the jungle. રાજાએ પોતાને કાગડામાં બદલી નાખ્યો અને જંગલમાં ઊડી ગયો.
