English
If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill,
Be a scrub in the valley — but be
The best little scrub by the side of the rill;
ઝરણાના કિનારે સૌથી શ્રેષ્ઠ નાનું ઝાડવું;
Be a bush if you can't be a tree.
If you can't be a bush be a bit of the grass,
And some highway happier make;
અને કોઈ ધોરીમાર્ગને વધુ સુંદર/આનંદદાયક બનાવો;
If you can't be a muskie then just be a bass
But the liveliest bass in the lake!
We can't all be captains, we've got to be crew,
There's something for all of us here,
There's big work to do, and there's lesser to do,
And the task you must do is the near.
If you can't be a highway then just be a trail,
If you can't be the sun be a star;
જો તમે સૂર્ય ન બની શકો તો એક તારો બનો;
It isn't by size that you win or you fail —
Be the best of whatever you are!
There is something for all of us here.

1. What advice does the poet give to people in the first stanza of the poem?
Ans: In the first stanza, the poet advises that if we cannot be something big like a pine tree on top of a hill, we should be the best small scrub by the side of the stream or a bush.
2. Why does the poet say "We can't all be captains"?
Ans: The poet says this because a ship cannot function with only captains; it also needs a crew to work. Similarly, in society, everyone cannot hold the highest position, and every small role is equally important.
3. What, according to the poet, decides our victory or failure?
Ans: According to the poet, our size or position does not decide our victory or failure. What matters is how dedicatedly and best we perform our role, whatever it may be.
4. What is the message of the poem?
Ans: The message of the poem is that no work or role is small or big. Whatever role we get in life, we should perform it with full dedication and be the best version of ourselves.
5. Who, according to you, is a best person? Discuss.
Ans: According to me, the best person is someone who performs their duties honestly, helps others, and always tries to give their best effort regardless of their job, position, or status.
6. Think of someone in your village/town/neighbourhood who has very good qualities. Tell about him/her to the class.
Ans: In my neighbourhood, there is a uncle named Ramesh Bhai who is a street sweeper. He comes early every morning and cleans our area with complete dedication and a smile on his face. He is always polite, helpful, and takes immense pride in his work, making him the best person in our community.
